At Steel City Soils, we believe that a person's health is directly related to the health of the soil which produces his or her food. Steel City Soils turns organic waste into biologically active compost products. This action can accomplish a few specific goals:
- reduce amount of wasted organic nutrients in our region
- improve local soil quality, health, and biodiversity
- eliminate the need for pesticides and chemical fertilizers in agriculture
We specialize in organic waste collection and integrated design services to maximize food production in the Pittsburgh bioregion.
Steel City Soils, LLC was founded in 2007 in Pittsburgh, PA. We consider our company to be a social enterprise, meaning social and environmental change is our primary goal, and profits are a distant second.
